I am sitting at my computer nursing a cup of tea and reflecting on this time nearly one year ago when searching for a new home for the studio. Living Yoga started in May 2007 sharing space with L’Artiste 2 in downtown Naperville. The search began in July ‘08 with numerous road blocks. Among the many, building not up to code, ceilings too low to extend your arms overhead, to over-complicated lease agreements which made me feel as if I were signing my life away. Honestly, for a while there I wondered with so much resistance, should I continue to look for a new space?
Then one day I got a call from an old client friend who had heard the search was still on and suggested looking into the Turner Center in Aurora. When I first walked into the space it was the back room of the Academy of Human Performance. After a few minutes standing in the middle of the room I saw the possibilities and thought, ’yeah, this is the place, this is our new home.’ Rather quickly, and with much ease, the ball started rolling and I signed the lease. Shortly thereafter, my husband, daughter and few really special family and friends generously gave of their time to help create the studio. With no money to hire help, we did everything on our own from spackling and painting, to laying floors and cutting and applying baseboard. It was a big task for us, but it got done and was done with care and love.
On September 15, 2008 Living Yoga re-opened their doors in Aurora. We now have a fantastic location surrounded by a great community. It’s because of this community of wonderful teachers and students that Living Yoga is what it is today. I can’t believe it’s already been a year. Another year that the universe continues to support the dream of creating a place where people can come to find breath, balance and harmony. Namaste.
